Premier League Giants Liverpool have reportedly made Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze Villarreal a transfer target.
The 23-year-old has been on the radar of Premier League clubs since starting to make an impact for Villareal’s senior side in 2018/19.
According to Fichajes, Liverpool are considering a move for Chukwueze in 2023.
Manager Jurgen Klopp is already well stocked in the final third, with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota committed to the long-term for last season’s Champions League runners-up.
However, Roberto Firmino’s future remains highly uncertain, as the Brazilian’s contract expires at the end of the season.
Should Firmino remain at Anfield beyond the end of this campaign, Klopp may prefer to prioritize other areas of the pitch rather than committing a large amount of his transfer budget to an additional sixth in the attacking half of the pitch.
The Nigeria international has made a total of 178 appearances in all competitions, scoring 29 goals and providing 26 assists for the Yellow Submarine.
However, Chukwueze has played fewer games throughout 2022/23, making just five starts and one assist in LaLiga, with a further eight appearances coming from the substitutes’ bench.
He is in better form in the Europa Conference League, having scored two goals in five starts.
The Nigerian international is at a stage in his Yellow Submarine career where he has to make decisions about his future, as well as with his club.
The striker has just over 18 months left on his contract, and Villarreal have made it clear that they will have to be open to any favorable offer for his signature.
An earlier report suggested Arsenal, West Ham United and Everton could monitor any future developments for Chukwueze in the coming weeks.
Earlier this month, it was suggested that Aston Villa, now managed by former Villarreal boss Unai Emery, could also make a move for Chukwueze, even before Villa’s league wins against Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion.
