The Osun State General Assembly, on Thursday, expressed dismay at the poor quality of the work being done on the Ilesa water project.
The Assembly then summoned the consultant and contractor and the Ministry of Water Resources to appear before the lawmakers.
A statement by the Press Secretary to the Speaker, Kunle Alabi, obtained in Osogbo, said that while speaking at the plenary, the Speaker, Timothy Owoeye, warned those invited to disregard the invitation.
Owoeye said the Assembly would not fail to order arrest if any of the aggrieved persons failed to comply with the summons.
He pointed out that the Ilesa water project has swallowed so much money, to show that there is little work for the amount already spent.
The spokesperson then said that the State Ministry of Water Resources, contractors and project consultants should appear at the November 29 Assembly to explain the issues surrounding the execution of the project.
Quoting the spokesperson, Alabi’s statement said: “We are not happy with what is happening with the Ilesa water project. All those involved, especially the Ministry of Water Resources, the consultant, the contractor and the subcontractor, must all appear at the Assembly on Tuesday, the 29th of the month.
“Our findings revealed that the contractor in charge of the water project collected a lot of money without doing anything. They must be brought to book because taxpayers’ money is involved.
“They will have to come and explain to the public what is delaying the completion of the project, when a lot has been given to the contractor.”
