The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that a visually impaired lady, Hannah Opeyemi, was released by her kidnappers 11 days later.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi disclosed this through a telephone interview with our correspondent on Monday.
The lady was abducted on Friday last week in an attack on a lawyer, Sanni Boladale, in front of his house in Soyoye, Abeokuta.
The lawyer who was supposed to be their target was taken away after not being kidnapped.
Eleven days later, the kidnappers, however, were released on Sunday afternoon, after paying some sums of money as ransom.
When asked to confirm the victim’s release, Oyeyemi said he was released by his captors.
However, he denied paying the ransom to the kidnappers.
Oyeyemi said: “yes, they have released him. We have said that the command would not be part of any ransom payment arrangement.
“The police will never be part of the ransom payment. We will get the authors soon. We have some leads on the kidnappers. Soon they would be arrested and paraded.
Our correspondent gathered that over N2 million was paid to the kidnappers as ransom before the lady was released.
When contacted the lawyer said that Opeyemi was handed over to the family by her captors.
Boladale said Opeyemi was released on Sunday afternoon.
The victim was neither abused nor abused considering the victim’s appearance after release.
“Thank God they have been released,” he said.
“From the way he appeared, there was no sign of abuse or damage. They were not cruel to him, apart from the fact that he was in parts of Ogun State.’
