Nollywood actress Sonia Ogiri has called on the Nigerian Police to re-examine the use of its officers as celebrity escorts.
In a post shared via his Instagram page on Monday, Ogiri accused Nigerian politicians of starting the trend that is gradually turning into a “mess of society”.
“How did we get here as a nation?” Sonia asked. “The seed planted by our politicians is germinating the mess of society.
“A call to the Nigerian POLICE. So Papaya girl or whatever she’s called I don’t know, she moves in with 3 Nigerian policemen and they open her car door? What is this? What does Nigerian police mean? What’s going on?”
The actor further said that while “anyone” can hire police escort services in Nigeria, public figures in other “civilized countries” do not move with police escorts.
“I’ve never seen a politician, Bill Gates, a billionaire on police escorts here or in any civilized country. Now anyone can move with the police and they see this as a level? No more respect for that uniform?
“In Nigeria things get out of hand and nothing is done about it, why don’t we learn RIGHT as a people/nation? Influencing is not done that way.
“See that they make trouble and if nothing is done now, it will only get bigger,” he wrote.
Ogiri’s remarks come after a public spat at a party attended by Bobrisky and social media influencers Papaya Ex, who attended the event with a police escort.
Papaya Ex has earlier criticized a Nigerian Police company for sharing invitations to his house party as escorts.
The operator drove down the street in a convoy that included a police vehicle as he delivered boxed packages to celebrities.
