The Netherlands collected all three points on Monday as they beat Senegal 2-0 at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Cody Gakpo made a brilliant run in behind the Senegalese defense to connect with De Jong’s cross and direct a glancing header from the edge of the six-yard box past the onrushing Edouard Mendy, scoring his side’s first goal in the Netherlands in the 84th minute. first attempt at goal.

The Netherlands doubled their lead in the 99th minute of extra time with a superb goal from Davy Klaassen.

The first half of the match ended in a stalemate, as both sides struggled to find a foothold in the match. Frenkie de Jong came close but the Dutch midfielder couldn’t capitalize on the golden opportunity offered to him by Coady Gapko. He tried to cut in but missed and missed a chance to shoot a goal with Mendy guarding him.

Senegal played well until the 86th minute and even though they managed to secure the post, the Netherlands could not hold on for a point from the match.

Senegal’s Sadio Mane missed the World Cup due to injury in a club match last month.
