A letter circulating on social media indicates that the Katsina State government has approved N80 million to two popular musicians whose houses were attacked and destroyed to pay for political malfeasance during the just concluded election season.
The musicians, Dauda Adamu popularly known as Rarara and Yusuf Funtua popularly known as Baban Chinedu, were two of the most popular musicians for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Northern Nigeria.
Mr. Adamu’s house and office They were burnt by political miscreants suspected to be loyal to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano after the state governorship election.
Mr. Adamu, who hails from Katsina state but resides in Kano state, was reportedly targeted for his scathing songs against an NNPP national leader and presidential candidate. Rabiu Kwankwaso and the governor-elect of Kano State, Abba Kabir.
The musician’s vehicles and other belongings were also vandalized during the attack.
Mr. Funtua’s studio and his restaurant in Kano were also vandalized.
“After I was declared the winner of the governorship election in Kano State last Monday, I got a call in the morning that some people attacked, including my studio, where I have properties and looted and some of our boys were injured. Also, some unidentified thugs I heard that the house of a good friend who is a renowned political singer Dauda Kahutu Rarara was set on fire and his Zoo Road office was attacked.The proposed restaurant was also vandalized by these unknown robbers,” he told Daily trust newspaper.
“I am directed to convey the approval for the release of N80,000,000 Naira payable to the Secretary to the State Government only to the Accountant General, the Governor being the support of KTSG (Katsina State Government) to secure alternative accommodation for Alh Adamu Abdullahi Rarara and Baban Chinedu for their families on March 20, 2023. The letter was signed by Saminu Muhd - K/Soli, an official of the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning and addressed to the state auditor general.
Other government officials who were copied in the letter include Secretary to the State Government, Finance Commissioner, Auditor General, Director, Accountant General, among others.
For comment, the Director General of Media and Governor of New Nedia, Al – Amin Isa, asked for time to investigate the authenticity of the letter.
“I don’t know how to speak honestly. I’ll have to do my own research to find out,” he said in a message.
However, a source in the Ministry of Finance, who asked not to be named as he was not authorized to speak to the media, confirmed the authenticity of the letter.
“First of all, it is true that we received this letter as you requested, but I don’t think it should be a problem because the musicians are all from Katsina state”, the official who works in the Comptroller General of the Ministry of Finance. he said
