    Gunmen kill three police officers in Nigeria’s south-east

    Three policemen were killed on Saturday when they attacked a police checkpoint in Agbani, Nkanu West Local Government Area. Enugu StateSouth East Nigeria.

    PREMIUM TIMES has learned that the gunmen attacked the checkpoint around 8 am and opened fire on the policemen on duty, killing three of them on the spot.

    The police checkpoint is located near the Agbani Divisional Police Headquarters.

    A resident of the area, who identified himself as Ifeanyi, narrated to PREMIUM TIMES how the attack happened.

    “The policemen were busy collecting money from Okada people and bus drivers when they were attacked by unknown persons. It was so sudden.

    “Many of us ran away when we heard the shots being fired. We came back and saw the bodies of the three policemen,” he said.

    A video clip apparently shot after the attack went viral on social media.

    In the clip seen by PREMIUM TIMES, the bodies of the two officers were lying on the ground on a main road. Another body was seen in front of the Agbani Divisional Police headquarters.

    “Unknown days have killed police officers. One of them escaped, but three were killed. See their bodies here,” a voice was heard in the background of the video clip.

    The Enugu State Police spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, did not respond to calls and a WhatsApp message seeking comment on the attack.

    Enugu, like other states in southeastern Nigeria, has seen a recent surge in deadly attacks.

    Some members of the LP were also attacked on August 31 in Nenwe, a community in Aninri Local Government Area of ​​the state.
