ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan made the following statement today after the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency announced that the launch of mobile sports betting in Maryland could happen in time for Thanksgiving:
“Today we are proud to announce that sports fans can finally plan the official launch of mobile sports betting in the State of Maryland.
“To get to this point, we had to overcome numerous legal, political and bureaucratic delays that threatened to push back the release until next year after the Super Bowl. It was completely unacceptable to me, and we spent months demanding decisive action. Thanks to these efforts, and our administration’s repeated efforts after taking over, we expect mobile sports betting to launch this month, and we’re cautiously optimistic that it will arrive in time for Thanksgiving.
“I want to thank everyone at the Maryland Lottery & Gaming Control Agency for their hard work to help expedite the process, and we look forward to a successful launch soon.”
