A member of the South East security group, Ebubeagu, Ajasm Aja, has been shot dead in Ebonyi state.
His colleague allegedly killed over N1,000, a claim denied by the commander of the outfit, Mr. Friday Nnana-Ujor.
Our correspondent gathered that the late Aja and his assailant were members of the Ebubeagu group who had gathered in Isu community to provide security in Onicha Local Government Area of the state on Saturday during the All Progressive Congress ruling rally.
After the rally, it was learned that the group was directed to bring and secure the party flag in the next rallies.
However, there was said to be a quarrel between the deceased and his colleague over N1,000, which each of them was supposed to get for their role in the event.
A community source said: “At the end of the event, members of Ebubeagu and members of the G-24 group loyal to the chairman of Onicha LGA were asked to retrieve the party flag ready for the next day’s events.
“For this, one of the members of Ebubeagu and a leader of the G-24 group, Ajasm Aja, who was recently sworn in as the Health Councilor of Onicha council, got into a heated altercation with a co. – the member
“While the pair engaged in a war of words, Aja pulled out his pump-action rifle and aimed to shoot his co-worker. In quick response, the co-worker acted faster, pulled out a gun and shot him in the forehead. He fell instantly and died on the spot.” .
However, the Ebubeagu commander of Ebonyi state, Nnana-Ujor, on Monday said the attacker was not a member of the security team.
He said: “No, it was not an ebubeagu who shot him. That thing was stage-managed; It was the people who parked behind a Sienna bus that killed him. They sent it to that person who did it. People are thinking that it was an officer from Ebubeag who killed the person, but it is not true.
“It’s because the gun they used to kill people was a pump action. No person from Ebubeag goes to a rally site with buses. We had a meeting and made that decision. We are currently investigating the matter.”
