Nigeria Defender Calvin Bassey has hailed Ajax teammate Mohammed Kudus as a “star boy on fire” after his exploits helped Ghana beat South Korea 3-2 at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar on Monday.

In the Group H match at the Education City Stadium, the 22-year-old became a hero for the Black Stars after scoring a brace.

Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu put Ghana ahead with a superb header before Kudus made it 2-0.

Cho Gue-sung scored a quick-fire double to draw South Korea level, but Kudus had the last laugh after hitting the winner to give the Black Stars their first win of the tournament in Qatar.

Despite the rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria, Bassey took to social media to praise his club teammate Kudus.

“Star boy It’s on fire. It’s on fire. good player Crazy, right? I am happy with him,” Bassey said in a video posted on the Ajax Twitter handle.

Ghana booked their ticket to represent Africa in the world competition after defeating the Super Eagles on away goals.
