    APC’s Umar Bago wins Niger governorship election

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Umar Bago of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of Saturday’s Niger state governorship election.

    The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) University of Abuja Academy, INEC Returning Officer, Clement Alawa, announced the results of the election on Monday in Minna.

    Mr. Alawa, a professor, said Mr. Bago got 469,896 votes beating his nearest rival, Isah Liman-Kantigi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who got 387,476 votes.

    According to him, Joshua Bawa of the Labor Party (LP) and Ibrahim Yahaya of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) got 3,415 and 3,378 votes respectively.

    The translator said that the Action Democratic Party (ADP) got 2,001 votes, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) got 1,746 votes, and the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) got 992 votes.

    The National Rescue Movement (NRM) obtained 969 votes and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) 908 votes.

    He said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) got 665 votes, Action Alliance (AA), 471 votes, Young Progressive Party (YPP), 445 votes, Allied People’s Movement (APM), 351 votes, Action Peoples Party (APP). 167 votes, Accord got 140 votes.

    Mr. Alawa said the total number of registered voters in the state was 2,698,344, while accredited voters were 899,488.

    He said the total valid votes were 873,020, the total rejected votes 16,936 and the total votes cast 889,950.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there are 4,950 polling stations in the state, divided into 274 constituencies in 25 Local Government Areas. (IN)
