The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Sokoto State, Saidu Umar, has welcomed the 2,343 supporters of the All Progressives Congress who defected to his party in the state.
Umar on Thursday received the new PDP members at the inauguration of the Ubandoma/Sagir Mainiyo Old Market Development Association.

Umar assured the defectors that they would be taken along in all party activities, especially when the campaigns started.
He asked them to devote more energy to garner support and promote the party and its candidates in the field.
Outlining the agenda of empowerment programmes, Umar said his administration, if elected, would provide opportunities to the youth and women of the state.
He applauded the president of the association, Abdulrashid Maccido, for empowering the men and women of the area and asked other businessmen of the party to imitate the gesture.
Umar was attended by the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Abdullahi Maigwandu; Abdul Qadir Junaidu Commissioner for Animal Health and Fisheries; and Trade and Industry Commissioner Bashir Gidado.
Among others were the Chairman of Sokoto North and Sokoto South Local Government Council, Mustapha Shehu Sokoto and Faruku Sayudi respectively.
