Malama Khadija a married woman from Rano Local Government Area of Kano State has dissolved her marriage and married her daughter’s boyfriend.

The incident happened after the woman’s daughter, Aisha, rejected her suitor.

However, in their reaction, relatives of the woman told a local radio station in Kano that the Hisbah Commander of Rano LGA was being accused of marrying off their daughter without permission and they did not even know where she was.

But also speaking to the radio, Malama Khadija said that she lived happily with her new husband. He added that marriage was not forbidden in Islam.

She explained that after realizing that her daughter (Aisha) had decided not to marry her ex-boyfriend, she thought that both of them should not lose him.

Khadija said that with the decision, she reached out to her new husband’s family to make sure it was the right thing to do. He added that she was as beautiful as his daughter.

“I didn’t do it out of ignorance. I contacted the clerics and they told me that it is not forbidden in Islam. When I contacted him (the new husband), he agreed, but my parents and relatives refused to perform the marriage rites. That’s why I decided to go to Hisbah and now we are happily married.’

Khadija’s uncle, Abdullahi Musa Rano, said she refused to marry the man because he had deliberately dissolved her first marriage to marry his daughter’s suitor, who was not fit to be her husband.

“She pressured her husband to divorce her to marry the man. We can’t do this shameful thing in our family and that’s why we refuse to join the marriage. We are not happy with what Hisbah did and we want our daughter out. We want the commander-in-chief and the state government to look into the matter.”

When contacted, Hisbah Commander Ustaz Nura Rano said only the state mandate of the commission had the right to speak on the matter.

However, when contacted, the state’s Hisbah Commander-in-Chief, Sheikh Harun Ibn-Sina, said an investigation into the matter is underway.
