David Adeleke aka Davido was a multiple award winning artiste and composer, he has explained the reason behind his choice to be a singer instead of a music producer.
The Timeless crooner mentioned in an interview with Forbes on Wednesday that he always wanted to be behind the scenes while running his music production business, until he started to realize that he was much better than many of the artistes who record with him.
He said: “I was a producer. I always wanted to be in the background of things. So I had an older cousin who was like the musician in the family. I am the last born in my family. But then I was really good with computers, technology, stuff like that.
“So when he told me he makes music, I quickly went to learn how to record music from YouTube. I bought a computer, a program and everything, so I started learning on YouTube.
“Then I started recording artists. One of my cousins, who is always with me in the studio, noticed that if you are an artist and I am recording.
Davido added that whenever he noticed the artist making a mistake, he grumbled saying, “No, don’t sing like that, sing like that. Sing it like that, it will catch your ears more that way.
“So over time doing that, ‘Yo! I’m better than everybody I’m recording.
I was like, “You know, maybe I should record a song.”
The superstar said the first song she recorded blew up and that led to her singing journey.
