Tottenham have made their first signing of the January transfer window as Dutch winger Arnaut Danjuma joined on loan from Villarreal for the rest of the season.
Antonio Conte’s side swooped in for Danjumara after the 25-year-old looked set to join Premier League strugglers Everton.
Danjuma will give Conte another attacking option as he looks to get fifth-placed Tottenham back into the Premier League’s top four after recent struggles.
“We are delighted to announce that Villarreal have signed Arnaut Danjuma on loan until the end of the 2022/23 season, subject to international clearance,” he said on Tottenham’s website on Wednesday.
Apart from Harry Kane, Tottenham’s forwards have struggled to reach peak form, with Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison all battling injury problems at times.
Nigerian-born Danjuma could make his Tottenham debut in Saturday’s FA Cup fourth-round tie at second-tier Preston.
The 25-year-old got his first taste of the Premier League when he joined Bournemouth in 2019.
He spent two years with the Cherries, scoring 17 goals in 52 games, before signing for Liga side Villarreal in 2021.
In his first season at the Spanish club, he was instrumental in reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League, scoring six goals in 11 games in the competition.
He scored 10 goals in 23 league games last season, and has scored six goals in 17 games in all competitions this season.
