In the heat of the political debate surrounding Nigeria’s general election, two Nigerian artistes, Seun Kuti and Psquare’s Peter Okoye, are at it.
Seun, Monday, described Labor PartyHe pointed out that the presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as an internet favourite, might not have achieved much even if he won.
Seun described Mr. Obi as an opportunist who will not deliver Nigeria.
He said this in an interview with the Mic On podcast online platform hosted by Channels TV’s Seun Okinbaloye.
In a follow-up video on Wednesday, Seun, who recently celebrated his 40th birthday, reiterated his stance that only Nigerians can save the country.
Midway through the 30-minute video, the Afrobeat singer walked away and threw subliminal shade at the Okoye brothers.
Seun, a multi-instrumentalist, called music duo Psquare due to sudden interest in the LP candidate.
Psquare, made up of Peter and Paul Okoye, has been very open in supporting Mr. Obi’s candidacy. They have also worked in some of his campaigns.
“After Psquare has done enough shows for all the rich men and politicians in this country, and today, do I want to tell Peter that he knows what is good for Nigeria?
“After the game. They have inflated them. They sit down with you today to tell you they love you. Why weren’t you loved ten years ago? Ask Psquare why they didn’t love you 20 years ago when they were jumping up and down with PDP,” he said.
Seun’s outburst surprised many because in August 2022, Mr. Obi visited his elder brother, Femi Kuti.
‘Obidients’ threaten to burn down African Sanctuary – Femi Kuti

A few days before the visit, Mr. Obi’s fans, known as ‘Obidients’, threatened to burn down the New Africa Shrine following a news report that Elder Kuti described as misleading.
An online news outlet reported that Femi described Obidiens as a zombie.
During his visit, Mr. Obi promised to “campaign based on issues that affect Nigerians”.
angry
Seun’s remark angered Peter, who is also nicknamed Mr. P.

Responding to Seun’s claim, Peter said the Okoye brothers have never campaigned for anyone.
He stated that it was only sung at the inauguration of President Buhari, after he was named president.
He also recommended Seuni to his nephew, Made Kuti, who he noted was well driven and clean.
“My friend, I understand your frustration. But realize that the sky is big enough for all birds to fly. @burnaboy and other great artists have climbed the grand staircase of our Fela to blow. Settle down and pray to your god.
“My God has blessed my destiny and I will thank him forever. I will keep you safe in my prayers. Learn from your nephew @Madekuti because he is well guided and clean,” he said, among others.
Peter further concluded that Seun erased the history of his father, the late Kings Eda, Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
“Father has just erased his father’s history. You said only the people of Nigeria can save it. Is it PO and the other candidates, not the people of Nigeria? SHAME SHAME SHAME,” he wrote in a now-deleted tweet.
More anger
Moved by Peter’s comments, Seun said he would rather go out for a political discussion than throw shade at his family.
He said the Okoye family shamed him online for the money, but Mr P decided to use his late father and his nephew to call him out.
“Why don’t you use your nephew to talk to me, abi your brother. Aren’t you proud of yourself? After shaming some family online, throwing yourself out, because of money, now you’re using my family to talk to me.
“After you played for Buhari in 2015. Do you think that saying no will also reach us for those times. But we know how to say no. Not everything we go to is cut,” he added.
Where made
Meanwhile, the reactions have left the case of the two artists behind. Made, Femi Kuti’s eldest son, asked Peter to stay out of the problem as his family remains united.
“Please don’t use me as a tool to harass, insult or badmouth my uncle. I’m not sure how we are perceived, so I should clarify. We are still united as a family and we intend to stay that way. Thank you,” he said.
Controversial singer Portable also chimed in when he called out Peter for “insulting the Fela Kuti family”.

In a 30-second clip, Portable, standing next to a portrait of the late Abami Eda, did not spare the applause. “You’re going to say that your family is alive, it’s never going to strike again,” he said.
The reactions
Meanwhile, other Twitter users have also weighed in on the issue.
Mr. Obi’s supporters, also called Obidiens, are taking a hard time with Seun and his music career.
This is not because of wealth or achievements. You can easily deal with shame by shaming another man for his claims or achievements/successes on matters that have not been broken.

You forgot to add, “My God has blessed my destiny, in Lagos.” and not Anambra .where you are campaigning now he ruled. Funny enough, you are both now tenants of Asiwaju Lagos😂

Seun Kuti said A, you answered Z. He said you played at events organized by the political class in Nigeria, few years ago. What has changed?
How are you suddenly claiming from the people? Answer that and stop dancing around the question.— Vini Veni (@venimaurieni) February 7, 2023

I’m disappointed in you @PeterPsquare You bent down to answer his cutie. Not all the people you answer are bingos and some are from oko. It’s a simple message, you don’t have to answer. We have to vote whether we like it or not.
