England beat Iran 6-2 on Monday to open their 2022 World Cup campaign at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, Qatar.
Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka scored for his country in the 43rd and 62nd minutes of their first FIFA World Cup tournament.
Gareth Southgate’s young side took the lead through a Jude Bellingham header before Saka and Raheem Sterling scored in the first half in a dominant display.
Jack Grealish and Marcus Rashford, along with Saka, doubled the lead in the second half to secure the three points for their side.
In the allotted 10 minutes of extra time, Iran scored a penalty and helped them score their second goal against the Three Lions.
England had a rather tumultuous start to the tournament, with FIFA banning their captain Harry Kane from wearing the ‘OneLove’ armband with threats to show the striker a yellow card if he took to the pitch.
A few hours before the start of the match with Iran, they decided to back off from pushing the armband to be worn. They are currently in first place in Group B.
