Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to score in five World Cups on Thursday as Portugal opened their campaign in Qatar with a 3-2 Group H win over Ghana.
Ronaldo put an end to a turbulent week, leaving Manchester United conspicuously behind to bury a second-half penalty to put Portugal on course for victory.
Andre Ayew equalized for Ghana soon after but Portugal took a 3-1 lead with goals from Joao Felix and Rafael Leao. Osman Bukari scored a late consolation for Ghana.
After replacing Ronaldo, the Ghanaian team scored a second goal to get back into the game.
