Ahead of Monday’s trip to Arouca in Portugal’s Primeira Liga, Porto have received a major boost as Nigeria international Zaidu Sanusi is set to resume full training and be back in action. PUNCH Sports supplement the reports
According to coach Sergio Conceicao during a morning training session in Olival, Sanusi is back and doing conditioning training.
Sanusi has been sidelined since injuring his left abductor in the Champions League game against Spanish club Atletico Madrid, which Porto won 2-1.
The 25-year-old was replaced by Brazilian defender Wendell after he went off injured in the 53rd minute.
The defender has been sidelined ever since, missing seven games for Porto so far, including two in the League and five in the Cup.
Ready for action after the World Cup break, the Portuguese champions will be delighted with the return of the Nigerian, who took part in training on Friday and Saturday.
The game against Arouca might have come too soon for the left-back, but coach Conceicao will be counting on him when he faces Casa Pia on January 7, 2023.
Porto are second in the league today and Sanusi’s return will surely please the manager as they try to close the gap between them and current league leaders Benfica.
