The Osun State Government on Sunday said the free train service for the holidays during the festive period has not been cancelled.

The government also said that the new administration of Senator Ademola Adeleke could not deliver the service during this festive period due to some challenges in the planning and execution of the initiative.

For the first time since 2011, people coming to Osun State from Lagos and Ogun to celebrate Christmas and New Year were not provided free train service sponsored by the state government.

The initiative introduced by the administration of former governor Rauf Aregbesola continued throughout his tenure as governor and continued when his successor, Adegboyega Oyetola, became governor in 2018.

The governor’s spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, in a reaction to the inquiry on the train service, added: “His Excellency (Senator Ademola Adeleke) promised to continue any good initiative of the previous government.

“The situation of taking office, however, creates small obstacles in planning and execution. So for free travel, it is not cancelled.

“The challenges are problems related to a new government.”
