according to Italian publication, Corriere dello Sport, has attributed Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen’s new form to the birth of his daughter.
The Nigerian striker presented his newborn daughter with the first cap of his career in October during Napoli’s 4-0 defeat of Sassuolo in one of Italy’s Serie A games on Saturday night.
“I’m having a great time with my life and I want to enjoy it,” Osimhen said in his post-match comments.
“Every time I score, I dedicate my goal to my daughter. This hat trick is for him.’
The Nigeria international joined Napoli in 2020 from Lille for a club fee of €80m and has become an important player for Luciano Spalletti, scoring 19 goals between the tournament and the Champions League.
He won the best emerging player award at the Globe Soccer Awards and was the top scorer in the first half of Serie A.
Osimhen has nine goals in 11 Serie A appearances this term and is determined to help Napoli win their first Serie A title since 1990.
“The 23-year-old experienced remarkable personal growth, especially since the birth of a daughter, Hailey True, to whom he dedicated all his goals,” stated Corriere dello Sport, as quoted by Area Napoli.
“2022 will also go down in history as the year of professional growth for this lone striker. No longer just a unique, explosive, all-round athlete, but a deadly striker capable of scoring 7 league goals in the last 6 games played after the injury and above all a decisive man.
“Yes: it was often said that he didn’t leave a mark on the games that mattered and instead he solved the away challenges with Roma and Atalanta at the crucial moment and in between, he happily scored three against Sassuolo.”
Napoli have enjoyed an excellent first half of the 2022/23 season, sitting eight points clear at the top of Serie A as they qualified for the Champions League knockout stages as group winners with a campaign that saw big wins over Liverpool, Ajax and Rangers. .
