For all those who participated in the 2023 edition Spotlight Concert and Awards It was agreed that new music stars were born on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at the Landmark Events Center, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Speaking on what inspired the talent search part of the event, the Head of Asanbe Music, Olumide Asanbe, as organizer of the show, stated that it was born out of the need to give young Nigerians a platform to showcase their talents. He said: “The idea for the show was hatched at the time #EndSARS protests because I’m in the UK.
At that time, there was this narrative that Nigerian youths were lazy, so I said to myself, youths are not lazy; it’s just that they don’t believe in the system. I created this platform as a way to encourage and promote myself. This platform is for emerging artists. It’s about encouraging basic talents.”
with the theme Let your music shine, There were 15 contestants in the competition until one of them, Olajide Jaybow, emerged as the winner.
The ‘Cheche’ crooner who collaborated on a song with Asake bagged a N2m record deal, N500,000 cash prize and an award. Asked how he felt about winning the competition, Jaybow said, “I called out to God and he answered. I’m grateful.”
Other budding artists who made it to the final round of the competition are Kelechi Lucky, Gabriel Adetunji, David Samson and Adedeji Praise.
The concert included performances by Seyi Vibez, DJ Crowd Kontroller, DJ Smallz and Manolo Spanky.
