Nigerian midfielder, Kelechi Nwakali, is on his way to full fitness after being sidelined for about a month. PUNCH the reports
Nwakali suffered a knock on his right leg on 26 November in SD Ponferradine’s 1–0 loss to Malaga in a Spanish Second Division B match and was substituted in the 57th minute of the match.
His rehabilitation began two days later when he shared a photo of himself with a brace on his left leg.
“Way to go back, see you in three weeks,” he tweeted.
However, on Thursday, the 23-year-old shared more updates on his recovery on Instagram, posting videos and pictures of his gym sessions without the knee brace on his right leg.
He captioned the video and images “coming back stronger” and “work in progress.”
Nwakali made 16 appearances for Ponferradina and scored a goal before the Second Spanish break.
The ex-Arsenal player joined SD Ponferradina in July 2022 after a spell with the La Liga side, SD Huesca ended amid controversy to play in Nigeria at the 2021 AFCON Cameroon, against the club’s wishes.
At the 2021 AFCON held in January 2022, Nwakali featured as a substitute for Nigeria in the first and second group matches against Egypt and Sudan, before starting the final group match against Guinea-Bissau and being substituted in the 76th minute. Nigeria won the match 2-0.
