Nigerian Long Jump Sensation, Ese Mistgot off to a flying start in his first outdoor competition at the prestigious Botswana Gold Grand Prix on Saturday.
Brum won the women’s long jump at a star-studded meet and did so in style with a world-leading distance of 6.77m.
The African and Commonwealth champion saved her best jump for last with her final round jump, and in the third round she defeated Marthe Koala of Burkina Faso, who had been the leader until that point.
Brume took the lead with an opening distance of 6.65m, but when he failed to make that push in the next few attempts, he pulled ahead.
The koala jumped 6.69 meters.
However, Brume cleared a distance of 6.77 meters in his final jump in characteristic fashion to deliver when it mattered, to the delight of the Gaborone National Stadium crowd.
Saturday’s winner’s mark moved Brume to the top of the world list ahead of Indian Shaili Singh’s 6.76m.
Before doing it in Botswana, Brume has been testing the waters and getting up to speed.
He made an appearance in the Texas relays, where he was part of a 4x100m relay team and also competed in the 400m at the Cameron Burrell Alumni Invitational, also in Texas.

After hitting the running team in Botswana with a winning jump, the multiple long jumper hopes to continue his good form as he aims for another rewarding season culminating in the World Championships in Budapest.
