The Nigerian army has eliminated more than 50 terrorists and rescued 50 victims in ground and air strikes in the northeast and northwest in the past two weeks, an official said.
The Director of Defense Media Operations at the Defense Headquarters, Musa Danmadami, disclosed this during a bi-weekly news briefing on the operations of the armed forces in Abuja on Thursday.
In the Northeast, Mr. Danmadami said, Operation Hadin Kai troops neutralized 13 terrorists, captured 10 and rescued 41 victims in ground operations across the theater.
The Major General also said that over 13 terrorists were eliminated in Belowa and Ngwuri Gana of Abadan in Abadan and Bama Local Government Area on November 4 and November 5 respectively.
He said feedback from the airstrikes revealed that key members of the Islamic State in West Africa (ISWAP) leadership (Shura Council), Ali Kwaya and Bukar Mainoka, were among the dead.
According to him, the airstrike targeted the two ISWAP terrorist vehicles, as they were seen taking about 13 wounded terrorists who survived the initial attack to another hideout.
“In Ngwuri Gana, Bama, 15 trucks armed with various weapons bombed the convergence of a large group of ISWAP insurgents who were arriving from different locations to attack an unspecified location in the general area.
“The reviews revealed that a large number of terrorists were neutralized, and all their structures and vehicles were engulfed in flames,” he said.
Mr. Danmadami revealed that a total of 250 Boko Haram/ISWAP members and their families consisting of 43 adult men, 80 adult women and 121 children surrendered to the troops at different locations in the theater.

He said that around 13.8 million euros, arms and ammunition categories and logistical supplies were captured by the terrorists and their collaborators during the period.
According to him, the troops rescued a family of 29, two adult men, 15 adult women and 12 children from terrorists.

In the North West, Mr. Danmadami said on November 9, troops of Operation Hadarin Daji tracked down and arrested two suspected gun runners in Kude town in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State with 400 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition in a truck and the sum of N1 million.
He said the troops also arrested a logistics supplier to the suspected terrorists with the sum of N1.5 million with a list of items to be purchased in his possession at the airport roundabout in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
According to him, the troops neutralized 16 terrorists, recovered 13 AK47 rifles, 107 7.62mm special rounds, five hand grenades, 75 motorcycles and 150 livestock riders, among others, they also rescued 19 civilians.
He added that the air component of the November 14 operations bombed a notorious terrorist mastermind, Alhaji Ganai’s enclave in Kidandan Forest in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
“An intelligence report was made on the activities of Alhaji Ganai and his terrorist gang members in the general area of operation.
“They then engaged and bombarded the location. The outcome of the strike revealed that many terrorists were neutralized, including Kano Horia and seven other notorious terrorists,” he said.
