NBA Africa Academy star Joy Ighovodja has joined the Oral Roberts University men’s basketball team for the 2023/24 season, head coach Paul Mills has announced.
Ighovodja was one of 12 NBA Academy Africa student-athletes who participated in the final season of the 2022 African Basketball League from March to May 2022.
The NBA Academy is the 16th NCAA Division-I men’s program in Africa to commit. In total, more than 80 NBA Academy participants have gone on to NCAA D-1 schools and 17 have signed professional contracts.
“Joy is a 6-foot-4 lefty with point guard skills and tremendous length for a guard his size,” ORU coach Mills said.
“He can handle, shoot, pass and has a tremendous work ethic. He is currently playing at the NBA Academy Africa, where he has the opportunity to go against high quality players every day and this has fueled his development. Poza’s future with ORU basketball is bright and I am very happy that he has chosen to be part of the ORU family.”
