Lawrence Udeigwe, a Nigerian mathematics teacher in New York, United States of America, says his new single titled ‘Today’ encourages people to make the most of each new day.
The academic, whose artistic name is Udeigwe, also stated that he has made a great effort to develop his musical career, despite being a mathematician. He said: “In 2006 I released my first album and in 2007 I created my first band in Pennsylvania (USA). It has been at least 16 years of slow but steady work.
“I released music under the pseudonym Lorens Chuno. But in recent years, I began to see the need to have a broader name that encompasses my personal, academic and artistic life.’
Speaking about the inspiration behind the new single, Udeigwe described it as having a rich jazz flavor, adding that he wanted his fans and music lovers to enjoy the classic mix of Afrobeats in the single.
The academic entertainer added that despite the global acceptance of Nigerian music today, there is still a lot that can be done. He said: “When it comes to danceable tunes, it occupies a good space. However, I believe there is still a huge unoccupied space that Nigerian music can fill. We still haven’t made the most of our potential in terms of listening and pure instrumental music.’
When asked if he would like to collaborate with established Nigerian singers, he said, “I feel Ladipoe will be very suitable for a song I am working on. I will also love to work with artists like The Cavemen, Tiwa Savage, Flavor and Niniola.
