The leadership of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra has denounced the decision of the Federal Government to abandon the reconstruction of the eastern railway project.
MASSOB in a statement released by its leader, Uchenna Madu, in Owerri, the Imo State capital on Friday, accused the FG of deliberately excluding the people of the South East region in infrastructural development.
The separatist group said the FG continued to use funds obtained from oil deposits in the South-East region to develop northern states to the detriment of the Igbo people.
MASSOB also rejected the FG’s allegations that workers of the Chinese Civil Engineering and Construction Company were constantly being harassed by youths in Abia State.
The group said the Chinese construction company had not started its work in Abia State.
The statement read: “The leadership of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra has disagreed with the resolution of the Federal Government of Nigeria to suspend the reconstruction of the eastern railway project under the pretext of lack of funds to finance the project.
“The Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari is not ashamed of the impunity they have perpetrated and are still perpetrating through various sectors of their corrupt administrations.
“Muhammadu Buhari led the Federal Government rapidly and rigorously developed the major northern states, built and promoted modern rail transport across the northern states and Lagos State by building a highway with crude oil money from the southeastern states.
“They recklessly showed a hypocritical bias against the Easter region. It is completely hypocritical and unacceptable that there is no money to finance the Eastern Railway project.
“MASSOB also disagrees and rejects the report by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government that workers of the Chinese Civil Engineering and Construction Company are continuously harassed by youths in Abia State.
“This Chinese construction company has not started its work in Abia state, the workers are not even in Abia state”.
