The Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja has enrolled 6,387 National Diploma and Higher National Diploma students into the institution.
This includes 4,786 National Diploma I and 1,601 Higher Diploma I.
The chancellor of the polytechnic, Dr. Salisu Ogbo, made the announcement at the institution’s 30th matriculation ceremony on Thursday.
Addressing the event, the chancellor told the inductees that the institution has zero tolerance for all social vices such as cultism, arms race, examination malpractices, alcoholism, unhealthy gatherings, cyber crimes, incitement to violence, gangsterism. , misuse and distribution of school property, theft and inappropriate dress.
While cautioning that indiscipline, poor academic performance, misbehavior and insubordination are highly prohibited in the institution, Dr. Ogbo said the Polytechnic will not issue certificate to students with poor character and learning.
“The act of cultism is completely prohibited on our campus. All the visible and invisible security architectures of the Polytechnic located in so many strategic places have preventive mechanisms to deal with the cultists, their sympathizers and sponsors.
“Students are advised to stay away from all cult-related lifestyles.
“Students are also advised to report to the Security Unit any move intended to intimidate, lure them or lure them into cultism,” he warned.
Dr. Ogbo reiterated that the Polytechnic does not condone acts of religious fanaticism or religious intolerance of any kind, adding that the ban on all tribal associations on campus is still in force.
According to him, the outstanding mission of the Polytechnic is to build an environment conducive to group and independent learning experiences.

“We are keen to train students who will represent the pride and good image of the institution, and I have no doubt that this current batch will play a big role.
“We will continue to work to make the Polytechnic environment more pleasant, to learn and to ensure your personal growth and development.
“We will also continue to ensure that our graduates are responsible citizens who will contribute to the development of our beloved country, Nigeria.
“Our unique program aims to shape you in the right way, with a positive mental attitude and skills to compete with your peers in the wider world.
“Thus, our efforts are focused on providing high quality, sustainable and independent education that will stand the test of time.
“Here at the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja and our Itakpe campus, we have recorded significant milestones in structural and systemic development, geared towards making learning worthwhile at the Polytechnic.
“Our drive to achieve infrastructure development is a true testament to our action, which is once again student-centered.”
He explained that as an institution, they create a learning environment that allows students to sit for exams and explore options beyond acquiring paper degrees.
