Nigeria National League side, Ikorodu City FC will be hoping to win their first major title in their one-year history after reaching the final of the 2023 Lagos State FA Cup where they will face Smart City FC.
Oga Boys beat Box-to-Box FC 4-3 on penalties after regulation time ended 0-0 in the semi-finals.
Smart City, on the other hand, beat Future Pros 1-0 in the second half to set up a mouth-watering clash with Ikorodu City.
After being beaten by MFM FC in the quarter-finals last year, Ikorodu City have produced excellent results in this year’s edition, beating Dannaz FC and Divine Praise 3-0 in the last eight and the last eight.
The team’s head coach, Sadiq Dabiri, was in high spirits after their semi-final win over Box-to-Box and said the team would give everything to complete their historic run in the competition.
“We respect all opponents, as there are no small teams, but when we get to the field of play we know how to achieve our goal,” Dabiri said.
“We are preparing so hard, the players want to play to win and we know what we want. We want to win the state FA Cup and we are doing everything we can, knowing the caliber of our opponents. It’s also a team we know very well.”
While reaching the final of the tournament is a means of winning a major trophy in the state, Ikorodu City have also achieved another milestone by qualifying for the 2023 Aiteo Cup where they will have a shot against other teams from across the country for the CAF Confederation. cup ticket
