The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission has taken the All Progressives Congress candidate for Ideato North and South Federal Congress in Imo State, Abazu Benson to the Court of Appeal.

Copies of the court documents were obtained by journalists in Abuja on Wednesday.

On appeal, the ICPC argued that its three grounds of appeal were sufficient to overturn the High Court’s judgment and allow Benson to be convicted.

In a copy of the six deputation filed at the High Court, the ICPC alleged in the first count that Benson, being a public servant, on April 14, 2014, demanded and received N10m from a contractor as a gratification and thereby connived. An offense under Section 10(a)(i) of the ICPC Act, which is punishable by seven years’ imprisonment.

Evidence adduced by the ICPC further showed that while still a public servant and contrary to the code of conduct for public servants, Benzon registered the company Transtell Nigeria Limited through which he received bribes and was the sole signatory to the account. of the company

In counts three and six, the anti-graft agency also alleged that Benzon also demanded and received N4m and N3m respectively from the same contractor.

He said Benson collected the last N3m in his private account with the United Bank of Africa.

The commission also alleged that when the said contractor failed to meet the N23m bribe demanded, Abazu, then Special Assistant to the Director General, used his office to arbitrarily terminate the contract.

No date has been set for the appeal.
