Popular music producer and CEO of Mavin Records, Michael Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, says the most disappointing act of his career was when he was caught on camera smoking cigarettes.
Don Jazzy stated this in an interview with a former Big Brother Naija contestant, Doyinsola David. He said: “I remember the first time people saw me smoking cigarettes; Not anymore, but I used to smoke. I didn’t think there was anything wrong with it. I think it was at a concert. I was recording, and I was trying to adjust my glasses. In the process of adjusting my glasses, my cigarettes appeared. My (social media) timeline ran out. It felt like a religious figure was being caught watching porn; that’s how it felt.”
Don Jazzy reiterated that his feud with rapper and YBNL boss Olamide at the 2015 Headies Awards was not for him either.
“That action was out of character, and I immediately realized that I left the stage after saying it. Of course, I apologized to both Olamide and the organizers of the Headies awards.’
Meanwhile, Mavin Records celebrated last month’s International Women’s Day with a number of initiatives led by women.
One of the acts was a starting point for 15 creative women, made up of independent artists, sound engineers, songwriters and producers. During the Boot Camp, participants experienced state-of-the-art facilities and facilitators in partnership with the AudioGirl Foundation led by Febe Adedamola.
The company also held the annual Mavin IWD Soiree, providing a creative, fun and safe space to gather and discuss issues and birth solutions that collectively affect women in the entertainment industry.
The record label partnered with music streaming platform Spotify to thrill guests with performances by artists such as Qing Madi, Crayon and Magixx.
Spotify also hosted a masterclass and panel discussion where female executives discussed and promoted DigitAll—The Importance of Innovation and Technology in the Music Business.
