Enyimba coach George Finidi is talking tough ahead of their clash against Ikenne-based Remo Stars in matchday five of the 2023 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
The two-time African champions comfortably dispatched Kwara United with a 3-0 win in Aba last weekend, thanks to excellent braces from Chukwuemeka Obioma and Ademola Adebambo, who scored his third on his debut to seal the victory.
The 51-year-old Finidi, who also doubles as the assistant manager of the Super Eagles, has assured Aba fans that the Elephants will leave no stone unturned and continue to excel.
Looking at the stats, it looks like a fair call for the Aba team as they have won four of their last six NPFL meetings with Remo Stars.
“We are all happy for the victory. It was a great game for the players. I think they did very well,” said Finidi after the win over Enyimba on Sunday.
“We, the coaches, know that this team is good, it’s just a matter of coming to the party.
“We will not bow down. We know we have a task ahead of us: against Remo. We’ll see how we can all go there and get a good result.”
Enyimba will be hoping for a third win after suffering a 3-0 defeat against Bendel Insurance in Group A at the weekend against Remo, their first loss of the 2023 campaign.
With two wins, a draw and a loss, Enyimba are third in the Group A standings, two points behind Remo, who have gone on an impressive run, winning three of their four matches. Insurance are in first place in Group A with 12 points, winning all four games.
After their defeat to Bendel Insurance in Benin City, Remo coach Daniel Ogunmodede is confident that Sky Blue Stars will bounce back from their losing streak and return to winning ways.
“Today things did not go the way I wanted, tomorrow, things will go the way I want,” Ogunmodede said.
