according to to renowned data companies, Sofascore and Opta, former Super Eagles winger and Ajax legend Finidi George has been named the third best player at the 1994 World Cup hosted by the United States. PUNCH Sports supplement the reports

In the country’s first appearance at the world’s biggest football showpiece, Finidi played a major role as Nigeria took the world by storm.

Nigeria arrived in America as African champions, but no one could have expected Clemens Westerhofen’s side to leave their mark at the World Cup in the country’s debut appearance.

The West Africans impressed many in a top group that included Argentina, Bulgaria and Greece.

The three-time African champions opened their campaign with a win over Bulgaria, with the late Rashidi Yekini scoring the country’s first World Cup goal thanks to Finidi’s excellent assist.

The winger was crucial in Nigeria’s first attempt to progress to the knockout stage, scoring his first and only World Cup goal in a 2-0 win over Greece.

In a statistic published by the famous data company, Finidi’s feat earned him a rating of 7.88, the third best in the tournament.

Only Romanian great Gheorghe Hagi (8.00) and Swedish icon Kennet Andersson (7.89) were rated higher than Finidi in USA ’94.

The French Florin Raducioiu (7.88) and the legendary Brazilian captain Dunga (7.84) completed the first five positions.
