Liverpool legend and Sky Sports Commentator, Jamie Carragher, has claimed that Manchester United fans will root for Red Devils coach Erik Ten Hag over Christiano Ronaldo.
Reacting to part of Ronaldo’s interview with Piers Morgan, which appeared on social media on Sunday night, Carragher, who wrote on Twitter, said Ronaldo had handled the situation “badly” and that 99 per cent of fans would be on the Ten Hag’s side.
In the explosive interview, Ronaldo said he would never respect Ten Hag because the Dutchman doesn’t respect him. He also alleged that Ten Hag and some of the club’s senior managers tried to force him in the summer.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner also said he felt betrayed by the club.
Adding that there had been no improvement at the club since Sir Alex Ferguson left, Ronaldo said: “I don’t know what’s going on, but I didn’t see any evolution at the club since Sir Alex Ferguson left, there was zero progress.
“I want the best for the club. That’s why I come to Manchester United.
“But internally you have some things that don’t help us like (Manchester) City, Liverpool and now Arsenal like (Manchester) City, Liverpool and now Arsenal… a club with this dimension should be in the top tier in my opinion and they are not unfortunately.” .
Responding to the interview, Carragher said that Ronaldo said that Ten Hag does not respect him, but he (Ronaldo) also disrespected the coach on more than one occasion.
Carragher tweeted: “Ronaldo ‘I don’t respect the manager.’
“Ronaldo under Erik Ten Hag: He announced he wanted to leave, refused to come on as a substitute, walked off the bench and left before the end of the game. 99% of United fans will support Erik Ten Hag and it shows How badly Ronaldo played that.”
Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford in August 2021 from Juventus.
His first season at United was a glorious one under Alex Ferguson, winning three Premier League titles, the Champions League and his first ever Ballon d’Or for the world’s best player.
Despite scoring 24 goals in all competitions last season, United endured a terrible campaign, finishing sixth in the Premier League and failing to qualify for the Champions League.
It was reported that Ronaldo tried to make an exit before the start of this season, but could not find an agreement with another club.
