Eight school children in Ghana’s Bono East Region have died after the boat they were taking to school capsized in Lake Volta, authorities have confirmed.
The National Disaster Management Agency told newsmen that the eight, five boys and three girls aged five to 12, were among 20 students on their way to school in Wayokope, a lakeside community.
NADMO coordinator, Ibrahim Wudonyim, said the Marine Police Unit of the Ghana Police Service, assisted by some locals, recovered the bodies of the dead.
Investigations are underway to clarify the cause of the accident.
