Edo’s Yunusa Mujeeb, the 2020 National Sports Festival lightweight boxing champion, began his title defense at the 2022 National Sports Festival with an impressive victory at Sunday Ebimi in Bayelsa, STURDAY PUNCH reports.

Mujeeb dominated the fight for three rounds, with the judges giving the champion a unanimous 5-0 win.

Talking SATURDAY PUNCH After the win, an excited Mujeeb stated, “I was already excited before entering the ring because I worked hard and prepared.”

The young fighter thanked his opponent, Ebimi, and tried to get a result.

“My opponent was equally good, I felt his fighting spirit throughout the fight and it made me tougher.”

Mujeeb’s trainer, Lucky Oshanugo, is thrilled that his fighter started his title defense on the front foot.

“This is his first victory in these Games and I feel happy because the work was not easy. You can’t lose in the preliminaries and this kind of result from the first fight puts you in a good mood,” said Oshanugo.
