A gospel singer, Bola Discovery, has called on churches to invite lesser-known artistes to their programmes.
When asked if the churches, especially the big ones, favored gospel artistes, he said Sunday Scoop, “I don’t want to generalize, but I have noticed that most of the big churches only invite popular music ministers. It is their priority but I ask them to invite gospel acts that are not so well known yet. What is achieved now is that when it is known, it gets help. Some churches only invite the same set of people to their programs, and cater to them, based on what we see on social media. Emerging artists still have a long way to go before they are accepted. However, I believe in mercy and God’s grace, because that is what has helped me so far.”
Discovery also noted that while secular artistes had many patrons, the same was not true of gospel artists. She said, “Ministry takes a lot of time, and if not managed well, it can negatively affect other aspects of one’s life. In all things, wisdom is required. I am a wife and a mother, so I have to manage my time accordingly.
“Another big challenge is finances. The music ministry requires a lot of money to project what one does, release albums and organize concerts. If there are no sponsors, it may be difficult to get them all. There are many sponsors for lay artists, but it is not the same in the ministry, except for a few people who do it”.
The singer recently released two singles titled, Praise Medley and Worship Medley, about a week ago on his birthday.
