Dipreye Teibowei, the head coach of Bayelsa United, has expressed reservations over hosting his team’s matchday 4 match against host Josen Lobi Stars of Makurdi on Sunday.
Teibowei, immediately after losing 3-0 in the 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Group B match, indicated that there were question marks against the match officials.
“Even though Lobi Stars scored clear goals, the refereeing has many question marks, as one side went above the other.
“How can you say you want to improve the level of the league and the referees are still doing this,” he asked.
The coach said the league wouldn’t get better if the refereeing didn’t get better.
“If we continue like this, our standard will never improve,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Lobi Stars dominated the match against the visitors from Yenagoa at the Zaria Road Stadium in Jose.
Neither club could get past the other in the first half, which ended goalless.
The breakthrough, however, came in the 67th minute for the hosts, with Kumaga Suur taking the lead before adding another in the 77th minute.
Lobi Stars put the game within reach of Bayelsa United when Abba Umar scored from 25 yards to make it 3-0 in the 84th minute.
The head coach of Lobi Stars, Baba Ganaru, is happy that his team has achieved their goal, which is to score the most points in the game.
Ganaru said his young side was gradually adapting to his philosophy, which is anchored in discipline and character.

“In the first half, the boys were nervous and a little disorganized. But after talking to them at half-time, they were more focused, patient and direct in the second half.
“Their patience and resilience paid off and the necessary goals were reached,” he said.
NAN reports that Lobi Stars currently play their home matches in Jos after the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi failed to meet NPFL standards for the 2022/2023 league season.
