The Bayelsa State chapter of the Labor Party officially opened its state secretariat at the Isaac Boro Expressway in Yenagoa to coordinate activities for the 2023 general elections.
The LP also inaugurated local government coordinators and various committees that were formed for the party’s presidential campaign.
After the inauguration of the building, Akwa Ibom State LP gubernatorial candidate, Uduak Udoh, expressed confidence in the leadership abilities of the party’s presidential standard-bearer, Peter Obi, saying Nigerians are clamoring for him.
Udoh, supported by his running mate Charles Ebong and Akwa Ibom LP Vice President, Iniobong Nyong among other officials, described Peter Obi as a “man of proven integrity” who had the power to administer the country effectively.
He said: “Everyone yearns for Peter Obi. We know Nigeria has what it needs. Nigeria needs a man of proven integrity, a man who can deliver. And who else do we have but Peter Obi? Nigerians want him. He talks about industrialization; he talks about human capital development talks about, Nigerians need someone who can eradicate poverty and Peter Obi would do that for us.
“It’s not just that, he’s done it before when he was governor and we know he’ll do it again. We know his records, he’s clean and he’ll do it for us.”
In his remarks, the Bayelsa State Coordinator of the LP Presidential Campaign Council, Alagoa Morris, said the party was working hard to convince voters in the state that Peter Obi was the right person for the job.
He said he was heartened by the numerous calls from various members of other political parties who pledged to vote for the LP presidential candidate, and not along party lines.
Morris, while calling for sacrifice for Peter Obi’s election victory, said: “We must be free and this country must join the Peter Obi movement. It is a movement to liberate Nigerians from the parasitic political class.
“So people should vote their opinion, and we are saying that they should vote for Peter Obi because he has shown capacity, he is a leader who has shown not only capacity but exemplary behaviour; he is not receiving a pension; Obi is the one who paid all the contractors that were delivered during his tenure as governor and also did not owe a pensioner. He had no debt.
“Nigeria needs someone who can effectively manage public finances; and human capital development of Nigerians. This, Peter Obi, will give to Nigerians.’
Also, Bayelsa State LP Chairman, Eneyi Zidougha, said the party was vigorously mobilizing popular support for Peter Obi, stressing that over 70 groups of volunteers participated in the party’s success in the upcoming presidential polls.
