The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday named Nasiru Idris of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the governor-elect of Kebbi State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that INEC declared the March 18 governorship election inconclusive in the state.

Re-elections were held on Saturday in 142 polling stations spread over 20 of the state’s 21 Local Government Areas.

The final results were announced at the INEC headquarters in Birnin Kebbi.

Mr. Idris polled 409,225 votes over his nearest competitor, Aminu Bande of PDP who got 360,940 votes while Udu Idris got 3,103 votes.

He explained that there were a total of 800,560 votes, of which 781,478 were valid votes, and 19,082 rejected votes.

“I, Prof. Yusuf Sa’idu, the director of the governorship election held on April 15, 2023, declare that Nasiru Idris of the APC, having complied with the requirements of the law and obtained the highest number of votes, is returned elected as governor of Kebbi,” he added.
