The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, has announced that the governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have decided to divide the next Senate President in the South-South geopolitical region of the country.
Governors under the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) umbrella had earlier recommended that the Senate President should be divided into the South-East or South-South regions.
They also proposed to use the position of the majority leader, deputy majority leader and the leader as a compensation that can demand the resignation of four presidents.
But, in a video circulating on the internet by the African Independent Television (AIT), Mr. Ganduje confirmed that the APC governors have decided to support the former governor of Akwa Ibom, Godswill AkpabioEverything from the South-South.
The video showed that Mr. Ganduje and some of his fellow governors, including Ben Ayade of Cross River State, were in a meeting with some people.
Mr. Ganduje assured that nothing will change the zoning formula plan proposed by the governors for the party.
“The President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will come from the South-South and there is no other person than the former governor of Akwa Ibom, the extraordinary governor, the extraordinary minister who will be the extraordinary president of the Senate,” he said. .
“We have fixed that, so we assure you. We look forward to the day of agreement to become the President of the Senate of Nigeria.”

Responding, Mr. Ayade expressed gratitude to the APC governors for zoning the senate president in their geopolitical region.

He congratulated Mr. Akpabio as the next Senate President.
“I also want to thank you very much the Senate President for the South-South and our brother from our neighboring state, which is also part of Cross River State. We celebrate and thank you for giving us this opportunity.”
Mr. Akpabio and Osita Izunaso are from Imo State aspirants for the Senate President ticket in the South-South geopolitical zone.
Mr. Akpabio and Mr. Izunaso have previously served a four-year term in the senate. They have also visited President Muhammadu Buhari, presumably to convince the president to facilitate zoning for their region.
