The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has dismissed as false the allegation that former governor Adegboyega Oyetola and other former state officials took away vehicles worth 2.9 billion dollars.
The party has described the complainants as “comedians” who are only looking for ways to soften the impact of their embarrassing exit at the Osun Election Petition Tribunal.
In a statement by the party’s Director of Communications, Kola Olabisi, the party said all the tables set up by the government already have their reports even before inauguration.
The statement read in part: “Look at the attached video, you will see that the vehicles they announced they were looking for are already being used by the current deputy governor. However, they said they have done their due diligence.
“Should we continue to believe in such characters? How did they get the cost? Are they using current market value or what?
“Speaking of this particular table, have they finished the seat? When was their report submitted? We asked these questions because only two days ago the governor said that the former political office bearers who wanted their November salary should return the vehicle to his custody.
“Or is that also part of the panel’s recommendations? For clarity, the former governor and his deputy are, by law and convention, entitled to certain privileges and they are well documented. Apart from the vehicles that their offices allow them to take home, they never took anything else.
“As for the commissioners and other appointees who are also legally entitled, the governor formally granted them second-hand official vehicles as gifts for their meritorious service to the state, as they are not entitled to any pension or gratuity.
“It is also important to note that this gesture is not limited to political appointees, as in the past, even career civil servants were allowed to drive home their used vehicles as gifts on retirement for meritorious service to the state.”
He said this fact could be verified by administrations before Oyetola practiced the past, adding that the Osun PDP-led government should be serious and stop acting like comedians.
