The Director of State Services, Kano State office, Alhassan Mohammad, has warned that the service will not tolerate political attacks before the general elections.
The DSS director gave the warning on Thursday at the Electoral Stakeholders Forum organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission, Kano chapter.
Mohammed said that no special action capable of inciting crisis in the state would be tolerated henceforth.
He said, “I want to call on politicians to warn their supporters against acts of destruction of campaign materials in the metropolis. This is the current trend in Kano and if not stopped immediately, it would lead to dangerous outcome.
“But before that happens, we’re deploying our men to go after anyone caught in the act. Now, it’s time for a warning, because I won’t hear any thanks for releasing anyone arrested.
“Going forward, anyone caught in the act will be arrested and charged to court, whoever is involved. Enough is enough.”
In his remarks, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mohammad Dauda, who reaffirmed his commitment to ensure a peaceful atmosphere before, during and after the election, assured that the police would be neutral and non-partisan during the election.
On his part, the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Zango Abdu, said 5,927,565 people were intercepted in the primary voters’ register in Kano.
He explained that the record was still preliminary because Article 19.1.2.2 of the 2022 Electoral Law requires the commission to inspect the paper copy of the register 90 days before the election.
Abdul said INEC would monitor the campaign funding of all political parties as provided by sections of the electoral law.
He warned the key actors to maintain a peaceful atmosphere without violence.
He said: “I took an oath to ensure a free, fair and credible election in Kano and promised to work under that oath. I owe Kano a duty to conduct a credible and transparent exercise and I will not shirk.
“I will also work with the security agencies as a team player and servant for effective and efficient poll management in Kano State.”
